About Coach Sam

Highland born, Highland coached.

Coach Sam grew up playing Highland Baseball and now gives back to the program as a youth coach. Having developed through the same system he now teaches in, he understands what it takes to build strong fundamentals and help young athletes grow.

His training focuses on quality instruction over quantity. Through small-group sessions, players receive individualized coaching in hitting, fielding and pitching, with an emphasis on proper mechanics, confidence and game-ready skills. Every athlete gets the attention they need to improve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are coached?

Sessions are offered for players ages 8–13, split into two groups. Ages 10–13 train in dedicated hitting, fielding and pitching sessions. Ages 8–9 have their own separate sessions built for first-year and newer players, focused on the basics and keeping it fun.

What equipment should my player bring?

It depends on the session. Hitting: bat, helmet and glove. Fielding: glove and cleats. Pitching: glove and cleats. Bring a water bottle to every session. Each session listing above notes what to bring.

What happens if it rains?

Sessions run through light rain. If lightning is in the area before a session, it is canceled and you will be notified by text and phone call as early as possible. If lightning moves in during a session, players are brought off the field immediately and parents are called and texted to pick up. Canceled sessions can be rescheduled at no charge.

Can beginners attend?

Yes. Sessions are built around fundamentals, and small groups mean instruction is tailored to each player's level.

Do players need baseball experience?

No prior experience is required, though sessions are designed for players already playing at the 10–13 level.

How many players are in each session?

Hitting and fielding are capped at 6 players. Pitching is capped at 3, so every pitcher gets close to private-lesson attention.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your session so another player can take the spot. Cancellations inside 24 hours cannot be rescheduled.

Where are sessions held?

All sessions are held at Highland Ball Fields in Saint Paul. The exact field and address are included in your booking confirmation.
